Hello and welcome! I understand that finding the right therapist can be overwhelming, especially with so many options available. If you're new to therapy, it might be hard to know what to look for, but I hope sharing a bit about my background and approach can help you feel more at ease and bring some clarity to your journey.
I completed both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at The University of Florida. Throughout my clinical experience, I've worked in various settings, including providing substance abuse counseling in jails, serving as a case manager at a domestic violence center, and working as a family therapist in a community mental health agency. After finishing my graduate training, I joined a private practice in Gainesville, Florida, where I further honed my skills.
One thing that has remained constant in my work with people from all walks of life is the importance of connection. We all long for deeper, more meaningful connections with ourselves and with others.
My passion for therapy is rooted in the belief that we can heal by strengthening both our internal and external connections. With that in mind, I founded Syndesi Counseling, which is built around my deep belief in the power of connection.
When I’m not in session, you’ll often find me exploring the outdoors or staying active in ways that bring me joy and balance. Whether it’s hiking, dancing, hanging out at the beach, I believe in the power of movement and connection with nature to refresh the mind and body. My German Shepherd, Khloe, is my loyal companion on many of these adventures. I also have a passion for traveling, discovering new cultures, and enjoying the vibrant energy of electronic music. Closer to home, I love spending time with friends, exploring all that Jacksonville has to offer, and embracing the community I’m grateful to call my own.
The first time I was truly believed.
I vividly remember the moment I shared my story with someone who wholeheartedly listened—no judgment, no doubts, no challenges. Just belief.
Growing up, there were many times when I wasn’t taken seriously, when my feelings were dismissed or questioned. That kind of invalidation isn’t just hurtful—it makes you doubt yourself, your judgment, and your confidence.
But experiencing the power of being believed and having my feelings validated was transformative. It played a crucial role in my own healing and empowerment.
Now, I want to be that person for others. I want to listen. I want to believe.
Early in graduate school, a professor pointed out that I was very “solutions-focused”—quick to fix problems rather than truly listening. This feedback was eye-opening, as it reflected how I was raised and approached challenges. I realized that jumping to solutions, though well-intended, can feel dismissive and patronizing. True support isn’t about giving advice—it’s about slowing down, listening, and offering emotional connection. Most people don’t need answers; they need to be heard and understood. Through feeling understood we are empowered, confident, and motivated to tackle the obstacles we face.
I believe my approach to counseling is a healthy balance between offering suggestions while remaining nonjudgmental and empathetic.
I deeply value your autonomy. My approach is rooted in respect, and I will never judge, shame, or patronize you for the choices you make, even if they might seem unhealthy or counterproductive at times. While I’m here to offer guidance, challenge you when appropriate, and hold you accountable, I also want you to feel empowered to make your own decisions, even if they sometimes diverge from the goals we’ve set together. I understand that change is a process and it takes time. It’s important to me that you feel comfortable sharing your struggles, including moments when you haven’t made choices aligned with your goals, without the fear of judgment or criticism. Ultimately, I’m here to support you in your journey, wherever you are, and help you navigate the path forward at your own pace.
